Women and Pattern Statement

Each painting in the Women and Pattern series consists of a woman embedded in a pattern of her choosing. As a whole, the series studies the relationship and connection women have with decorative pattern be it from their past, present, or future. Historically, women create, preserve, and/or pass on cultural-historical textiles and patterns through generations of the family via such keepsakes as quilts, linens, or other home objects containing a decorative element. Celebrating the memory and fantasy of these patterns—a mother’s apron, a behavior, a grandmother’s china set—each composition synthesizes a swiftly rendered gestural figure with its own intrinsic palette.
